Are you afraid of Ticks but unhappy with Topicals on your dog?

This Spring’s hot new product for canine flea and tick control is an oral chewable treat from Merial named “NexGard” (Afoxolaner), it promises a tasty, no fuss or messy solution to the problem keeping parasites off your dog while keeping insecticides off your furniture and your family.

It is for use in dogs only, in 4 sizes for different weight ranges. It is licensed to kill fleas and the American dog tick, with labeling for addition tick-effectiveness pending it kills 99% of fleas within 12 hours and 100% within 24 hours, and for 35 days thereafter. Fleas on treated dogs are unable to lay eggs in their environment.

It kills the American dog tick with 97% effectiveness with 48 hours, which is considered to be fairly effective at preventing the transmission of Lyme Disease.

The most frequent adverse reaction may be vomiting, in less than 1% of doses administered. If vomiting occurs within 2 hours od dosage, the dose should be repeated.
