Dr. Peter Lugten grew up in Britain, attending the University of Edinburgh veterinary college. Consequently, he enjoys all things Scottish. He and his wife, an RN, take part in fund raising benefits concerning health care issues on Long Island. The remainder of his time is consumed by continuing education, and, for relaxation, philosophy and politics.
Dr. Lugten was voted Long Island Cat Fanciers Veterinarian of the Year in 2007.
He is always down to earth, and says of being voted ‘Long Island Veterinarian of the Year’: “I never let it go to my head”.
Peter Lugten, BVM & S, MRCVS, received his degree at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 1979.
After moving to New York in 1984, he worked at two other Long island animal hospitals before taking over Basic Pet Care Animal Hospital in 1989. Dr. Lugten is a member of the American, New York State and Long Island Veterinary Associations as well as the American Animal Hospital Association.
Jenny is our office manager and has worked at Basic Pet Care since 2003. She dreamed of working with animals since early childhood and obtained her Vet Tech license in 2003.
At home she has 3 human children and 2 fur-babies.
Corinne has been at Basic Pet care since 2007. She obtained her license as Veterinary Technician in 2010. She keeps a menagerie of farm animals, pocket pets, reptiles, and amphibians at her home and is our resource if you should have any related questions. She also is a licensed Wildlife Rehabillitator.
Ashley has worked at Basic Pet Care since 2015. She obtained her Veterinary Assistant certificate at Boces. She will be starting school at SUNY Delhi in the Fall of 2016 as a Veterinary Technician; with goals of becoming a Veterinarian after that. She will still be employed at Basic Pet Care during school breaks.
Jennifer has worked at Basic Pet Care in 2005. She left for a brief period to pursue a corporate career, but realized that her heart was in animals care. She returned to Basic Pet Care and hasn’t looked back since. Jennifer has been an animal lover since early childhood and cannot remember a time in her life that she hasn’t been surrounded by pets. Her 4 legged family consists of a Chihuahua named Chloe, a Peekle named Otis, and a Chihuahua Rat Terrier mix named Pancake.
Breanna has been at Basic Pet Care since 2016. She obtained her Veterinary Assistant Certification at Boces in 2016. There has never been a time that she did not have a love for animals. She has anywhere from 10-20 reptiles at home at any give time; as well as her 2 dogs and various rodents.
Jessica got her experience working with animals through volunteering. She has been a member of the League for Animal Protection of Huntington, Inc. since 2008 as well as the Town of Huntington Animal Shelter.
She is also very dedicated to her two fostered pit-bull mixes since 2012.
