There has been a flurry of articles in the veterinary press this year about the beneficial effects of using therapeutic laser, which reminds me that we have been using Therapeutic Laser at Basic Pet Care for 5 years, and what a valuable tool it has been.
Therapeutic Laser is able to promote healing and relieve pain and harmful inflammation, all without the potential side effects of strong pharmaceuticals. It consists of a portable unit linked to a probe that shines a highly focused beam of light energy on the affected tissues. This has a variety of effects on cell membranes inhibiting the release of harmful chemicals, inhibiting pain nerve impulses, and promoting healing and endorphin release.
The result is better circulation reduced spasm, improved flexibility and function, with speedier healing. Many sorts of injuries and disease respond to Laser treatments: wounds, back and neck pains, arthritis, but also dental pain, bronchitis, chronic bladder inflammation, pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel disease. Treatment sessions last just 10-15 minutes. They are repeated daily to every 3 days at first and then may be reduced in frequency.
